January 15 — A Timely Word

Scripture Reading:
Proverbs 15
Isaiah 50:4–5

“A man has joy in an apt answer, and how delightful is a timely word.”
— Proverbs 15:23

I hope that as you read today’s verse, you can recall a time when someone spoke into your life in a powerful way—words that you knew were straight from the Father. Perhaps it was a message of comfort during a difficult season, or wise counsel given at a critical crossroads. Maybe it was even a simple sentence spoken at just the right moment that reminded you God was near.

The wonderful truth is that the Father desires to make you into the person through whom He delivers those life-giving words.

Isaiah 50:4 teaches, “The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” How does God do this? Isaiah continues, “Morning by morning he wakens me; he opens my ear to listen like one being instructed.” (Isaiah 50:4–5)

God takes responsibility for shaping you into someone who honors Him and encourages others. But notice your part in the process. The Father teaches you His ways, yet it is essential that you spend time with Him daily—listening, receiving, and obeying what He says.

So consider this today: Is there someone who needs a word of encouragement? Has someone been seeking your counsel, or could benefit from a simple note of reassurance? If you turn your heart toward the Lord and pay attention to His leading, He will give you just the right words at just the right time.

A timely word, spoken in obedience, can become a source of joy, healing, and hope for someone who desperately needs it.

Closing Prayer

Father, I know there is someone You want me to reach out to today. Speak Your message of life through me, so that this person may be encouraged and strengthened. Amen.
