January 13 — Steady On

Scripture Reading:
Proverbs 13
Psalm 73:13–14

“Godliness guards the path of the blameless.”
Proverbs 13:6

Do you ever experience moments when it feels like obedience to God brings more hardship than reward?

The psalmist Asaph understood this struggle deeply. He confessed, “Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and washed my hands in innocence; for I have been stricken all day long and chastised every morning” (Psalm 73:13–14). From his perspective, faithfulness seemed to lead only to difficulty.

At times, it may appear that those who disregard God are the ones advancing, while your own reward for obedience feels like quiet endurance. But do not lose heart.

The Lord never overlooks faithfulness. He honors it in ways far greater than we can see in the moment.

God calls you to live a holy life — to walk as He walks and to reflect His truth to others. That calling is not easy, nor was it meant to be. Difficulty refines your character and allows others to witness the power and faithfulness of the living God at work in you.

And you are not left to endure alone.

Your Heavenly Father has given you the Holy Spirit to guide you, strengthen you, and lead you to victory. When discouragement presses in, ask yourself this: What matters most to me — God’s approval or temporary comfort? My desire for ease, or the eternal good of someone else?

Each time you choose faithfulness over despair, something within you grows stronger. Your faith deepens. Your wisdom increases. And you gain another testimony of God’s nearness — proof that He walks beside you even in difficulty.

That presence is of immeasurable value to your spirit and may carry eternal significance for someone else.

Closing Prayer

Father, I know You will never leave or forsake me.
I trust that You would not allow difficulty without a good purpose.
Thank You for walking with me through every challenge.
I place my trust in You.
Amen.
