January 9 — Build Up

Scripture Reading:
Proverbs 9
Matthew 7:24–25

“Wisdom has built her house.”
Proverbs 9:1

There are moments when you may feel weak — powerless to change the future or overcome the challenges before you. In those seasons, it’s tempting to dwell on thoughts of defeat or to give in to despair. But Scripture reminds us that every negative thought has the potential to tear down our faith and our lives.

Wisdom, however, chooses a different path.

As today’s verse shows us, wisdom actively builds rather than destroys. Even when you feel weak, you still have a choice — the choice to strengthen what feels fragile.

Jesus illustrated this truth when He said:

“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24–25

Resilience is built when your life is anchored in God’s Word and shaped by obedience to it. The storms will come — that is certain. But when your foundation is Christ, you will not be shaken by the intensity of the wind or rain.

Rather than dwelling on discouragement, turn your thoughts toward the promises of Scripture. When you do, you are reminded that your future does not depend on your own strength, but on the wisdom and power of God, who lovingly shapes every day ahead.

If you are feeling weak today, choose to build yourself up by spending time in God’s Word. The Lord will not only carry you through your difficulties — He will use them to strengthen your faith and deepen your trust in Him.

Closing Prayer

Father, I feel weak, but I am grateful that You are my strength and my future.
Build me up through Your Word so that I may stand firm and honor You in all things.
Amen.
